The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team tied Hoftsra University, 1-1, Sunday, Sept. 17 at University Field.
Pride (4-3-1) forward Jill Lipari (Flanders, NJ) netted an unassisted goal nine minutes following the opening tap, as Hofstra jumped out to a 1-0 lead.
The Knights (1-5-1) responded five minutes later via a free kick. Freshman midfielder Jennifer Arceneaux (/Ralston Valley) (Arvada, CO/Ralston Valley) blasted a shot towards the right post which was thwarted by HU goalkeeper Krystal Robens (East Taunton, MA). Sophomore forward Natalie Bellini (/St. Thoma Aquinas) (Tamarac, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) one-timed the deflection high and inside the right post for the equalizer in the 14th minute.
Senior goalkeeper Kyla Clark (/Notre Dame/Univ. of Texas - El Paso) (Ottawa, Ontario/Notre Dame.Univ. of Texas ? El Paso) registered 11 saves in 110 minutes, while the defense turned away eight Hofstra corner opportunities.
“I had 11 players each log extensive minutes and their effort and heart was brilliant” Head Coach Renee Montana said. “If you don't come away with confidence from this type of game, you never will. We played a solid opponent and battled the entire time.”
Junior midfielder Michelle DeCourcey (/Fredericton) (Fredericton, New Brunswick/Fredericton) notched a team-best four shots for FDU. Midfielder Marie Curtin (Kilmallock, Ireland/Ard Scoil Mhuire) fired a game-high nine shots ? two off the crossbar ? to pace the Pride's offense.
The Knights head to Philadelphia, PA at 7:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22 to play La Salle University.
