Fairleigh Dickinson Men?s Soccer Defeats Missouri State, 2-1

Omaha, NE ? Freshman Jorge Blacido (Ramsey, NJ/Rider) (Ramsey, NJ) notched his second career goal in the second overtime period to lead the Knights to a 2-1 victory over Missouri State University in the opening round of the Ameritas Classic hosted by Creighton University.  The Knights improve to 2-1-0 on the year while Missouri State falls to 1-1-1 overall.

Pelting the Missouri net with a Morrison Stadium record 29 shots for the game, it was the ninth and final shot on goal with which senior captain Donny Mayard (/Leblanc) (Laval, Canada) served a ball to about 15-yards out where Blacido one-touched the pass into the back of the net to snap a 1-1 tie in the 101st minute of play.  Sophomore Alejandro Bedoya (Weston, FL/ASES Group) (Weston, Fl) and junior Pino Tubito (East Hanover, NJ/St. Thomas Aquinas) (East Hanover, NJ) combined for 15 (10 and 5 respectively) of the Knight's 29 shots for the night.

The Knight's jumped out to a 1-0 lead just shy of 11 minutes into the contest (10:53) on an own goal by the Bears.  Missouri State knotted the contest at the 61:37 mark as Omar Shoucair blasted from the top of the box a Justin Douglas throw in to deadlock the game and force the extra sessions.

“I thought we played very well," said Head Coach Seth Roland.  "We just didn't finish our opportunities very well. Ultimately, we did enough to win the game."

The Knights had 13 shots in the first 15 minutes of play en route to out shooting the Bears 29-13 for the contest. Senior Tomer Chencinski (Toronto, Canada, /Chapel School) (Toronto, Canada) registered his first win of the season going the distance between the pipes for the Knights and making two saves. Alex Riggs was in goal for the Missouri State, making seven saves.

Fairleigh Dickinson returns to action this Sunday, September 3, as the Knights take on tournament host Creighton at 7:30 Central Standard Time (8:30 p.m. est)
