The Quinnipiac University softball team defeated Fairleigh Dickinson, 5-0, in the front end of a doubleheader Friday afternoon in Hamden, CT. The second game was suspended in the fourth inning due to rain. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 12-27 (6-1 NEC) while the Knights drop to 3-33 (1-8 NEC).
The nightcap will resume, if necessary, with FDU runners on second and third and no outs in the fourth inning at a date to be determined.
The Bobcats first scored in the second inning, when Sarah Collins sent a solo blast over the left field fence. Quinnipiac staged a four-run fourth inning to seal the win.
Kristin Sheriff (4-8) hurled her second straight complete game shutout to take the win, scattering six hits and three walks while striking out five.
Ashley Buchanan (0-12) took the loss for the Knights, pitching all seven innings, allowing six hits. Dana Myers went 2-for-4 and Jaime Colvin went 2-for-2.
The Knights are back in action on Saturday, April 15 at Central Connecticut. The doubleheader in New Britain, CT, will begin at 1:00 p.m.
