Softball Defeated by Monmouth, 8-0 (5) and 7-4

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team (3-32, 1-7 NEC) fell in a doubleheader at conference opponent Monmouth, falling in five innings in the first game, 8-0, and dropping the second, 7-4, on Monday afternoon.

Kristine Sawlsville pitched a one-hitter to give the Hawks an 8-0 win in five innings in the opening game. Hope Hilman broke up the no-hitter with a single in the second inning, finishing the game 1-for-2.

In the nightcap, Monmouth scored first with an unearned run. The Hawks added on in the second inning, taking a 2-0 lead on Kara O'Dell's single to center field. The Hawks then staged a five-run fourth inning to take the 7-0 lead.

The Knights responded with runs in the last three innings. Jennifer Whitley singled in the fifth inning to score KC Hallgren and put the Knights on the board, 7-1.

Caitlyn Reuter started the sixth inning rally with a walk and then was plated when Ali Keltos shot a single up the middle. Reuter doubled down the left field line to push Hilman across the plate in the seventh inning and Stephanie Cahill scored to cut the Hawk lead to 7-4.

The Knights are back in action on Thursday, April 14 when they play a doubleheader in Hamden, CT at Quinnipiac, starting at 3:00 p.m.
