The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team dropped a pair of games at Stony Brook on Thursday afternoon, falling 6-1 and 9-0. The Knights fall to 2-23 on the season, while the Seawolves improve to 14-12.
In the first game of the day, Stony Brook put up a four-run first inning to take the lead. After a leadoff groundout, Ashley Westphal and Marissa Fleury posted back-to-back singles. Hayley Durham walked to load the bases for Molly Kestranek, who hit a grand slam.
The Seawolves tacked on two more as Westphal hit an RBI single and Fleury had an RBI triple.
The Knights answered in the fourth inning as Caitlyn Reuter doubled to lead off. Jaime Colvin doubled to plate Reuter.
FDU held Stony Brook scoreless for the final four innings, but were unable to put any more runs on the board, making the final 6-1.
Ali Keltos led the Knights with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. Colvin was 1-for-3, pushing across the Knights' only run.
Ashley Buchanan, on the mound for the Knights, scattered six hits in six innings of work. She struck out two and allowed four earned runs.
Westphal was 3-for-4, crossing the plate twice and pushing another run across.
Angela Andrews was credited with the win, giving up six hits in seven innings.
In the nightcap, the Seawolves put one run on the board in the first inning. They tacked on another for the 2-0 lead in the sixth inning and sealed the game with a seven-run sixth inning.
Dana Myers broke up the no-hitter with a single in the top of the fifth inning.
Nicole Webb was on the mound for the Knights, allowing only two earned runs.
Sarah Hoffman pitched the one-hitter, stiking out four and walking none. Westphal led the Seawolves offensively, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.
The Knights are back in action this weekend, when they host St. Francis PA in a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 1 and Robert Morris in a doubleheader at noon on Sunday, April 2.
