Women's Basketball Defeated, 84-44, at Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, CT - The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's basketball team fell on the road to Sacred Heart University in the William H. Pitt Center on Monday, Feb. 20, 84-44. Sophomore forward Jennifer Walkling led the Knights with eight points and three assists.

The Knights (7-17, 4-12 NEC) jumped out to a 5-3 advantage at the 17:55 mark when senior guard Krissy Suckow popped a three-ball. Sacred Heart (21-4, 14-2 NEC) guard Amanda Pape responded by spotting up from downtown, as the Pioneers jumped ahead, 6-5.

SHU continued on an 17-2 surge, taking a 20-7 lead with 12:00 remaining in the second-half, sparked by four-consecutive points in the paint by center Kaitlin Sowinski, followed by eight-straight points by Pape.

Sophomore point guard Megan Kirkland ended a 6:08 scoring drought with a three-pointer at 10:49. Sophomore guard Shanay Freeman connected from long-range to create a single-digit contest at 20-13.

The Pioneers jumped ahead 30-13 propelled by 10-0 spurt, before freshman forward Heather Coombs converted a bucket in transition. Sacred Heart pushed the score to 43-15, via a 13-2 run, as guard Lisa Moray connected on 3-of-4 field goals from behind the arc.

Sacred Heart took a 46-21 lead into the break, on the strength of seven three-pointers and 22 points in the paint. The Knights hit four treys in the initial 20 minutes on nine attempts.

The Pioneers out-scored FDU 38-23 in the closing 20 minutes. Sophomore forward Tiffany Seymour came off the bench to score a career-high four points.

Moray canned six three-pointers on the night, en route to a team-high 18 points. Pape dropped in 17 points.

The Knights host Monmouth University at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 22.
