The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's soccer team fell to host Mount St. Mary's, 1-0, on a golden goal by Mount freshman Neil Ouska, 58 seconds into the second overtime on Sunday afternoon.
The Mount (4-9-4, 2-4-3 NEC) scored the winning goal after being awarded a free kick from 25 yards out. Vinnie Berry lofted the ball into the penalty box where it was headed by Brandon Moncrief to Ouska, who was open in front of the goal. Ouska buried the shot to give the Mount the victory.
Fairleigh Dickinson (9-4-4, 6-1-2 NEC) had the best scoring chance in regulation when Samson Malijani (Lusaka, Zambia, /La Sapienza) broke in one-on-one with Mount goalkeeper Mark Murphy with just under 13 minutes left in the game. Murphy, however, came up with the save to preserve the tie. In the final minute, Chris Wymer (Dallas, TX/) also had a shot on goal, but just missed.
Murphy made three saves in the game to earn the shutout victory while Fairleigh Dickinson goalkeeper Tomer Chencinski (Toronto, Canada, /Chapel School) made two saves in the loss. Shots in the game were tied at 10-10 while the Knights had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Knights and Monmouth entered Sunday's games tied for first place, and with the loss, the Knights finish the regular season in second place, while the Hawks take first place after a 1-0 win over Sacred Heart. The top-seeded Hawks will host the Northeast Conference Tournament on November 3 and 5 in West Long Branch, NJ.
