Women's Volleyball Tops Quinnipiac, 3-1

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team improved to 2-1 within Northeast Conference play by virtue of a 3-1 victory over Quinnipiac, Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Rothman Center in Hackensack, NJ. Sophomore middle hitter Lauren Boothby (/Voorhees) (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) slammed a game-high 15 kills, as the Knights (14-9) bested the Bobcats (1-23, 1-2 NEC) for the second time this season.

 

Five FDU players racked up hitting percentages above .400, with Boothby's 26 attempts ? good for a mark of .462 ? leading the way. Junior outside hitter Rebecca Tenney (/Tabb) (Yorktown, VA/Tabb) notched 11 kills (.400), while sophomore outside hitter Megan Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) (Seabrook, MD/Elizabeth Seton) added 10 kills (.400). In two games, junior outside hitter Elena Schmidt (/Nevada Union) (Nevada City, CA/Nevada Union) contributed four kills, recording a .444 hitting percentage.

 

A late rally by Quinnipiac in game one earned the visiting squad a 30-28 win. However, the Knights strung together back-to-back-to-back victories of 30-16, 30-10, 30-14 to emphatically seal the match.

 

Junior setter Ruth Levy (/Cary) (Cary, NC/Cary) tallied a double-double with 33 assists and 11 digs. Sophomore setter Karolina Kowalski (/North Arlington) (North Arlington, NJ/North Arlington) contributed 14 assists, seven digs and four aces.

 

Fairleigh Dickinson hosts Central Connecticut State University at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 22 at the Rothman Center. Both teams enter the contest with identical records in the conference.
