Fabrizio Trezza (Rome, Italy, /Sion) and Alejandro Bedoya (Weston, FL/ASES Group) each netted a goal to lead the Fairleigh Dickinson University men's soccer team to a 2-0 shutout win against host Central Connecticut State on Sunday afternoon. The Knights have won all five of their conference games to remain undefeated in the NEC. Fairleigh Dickinson improves to 8-3-2 overall, while Central Connecticut falls to 5-6-2 overall and 1-4-1 in league action.
Twenty-three minutes into the game, Max Squarcia began the scoring play with a shot from the left corner of the box, that was saved by Central's goaltender, Nick Soares. Soares' save pulled him out of the goal, leaving an open net for Trezza, who headed the deflected ball and found the back of the net to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. The goal was Trezza's second of the season.
The game grew aggressive in the second half with five yellow cards issued between both teams. A total of 22 fouls were called throughout the game.
In the 83rd minute, Samson Malijani (Lusaka, Zambia, /La Sapienza) broke away down the left side of the field field and found Bedoya ahead of him, who netted his fifth goal of the season, to give the Knights an insurance goal.
The two teams were matched with nine shots apiece and the Blue Devils held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Tomer Chencinski (Toronto, Canada, /Chapel School) and Elvir Prasovic (Astoria, NY/Newcomers) combined to post the shutout win in goal. Chencinski played the first 46:19, making three saves and Prasovic made two saves in the final 43 minutes.
The Knights are back in action when they host Robert Morris at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20 and St. Francis PA at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 22 in the final two regular season home games.
