Men's Soccer Defeats Long Island, 2-1

The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's soccer remained unbeaten in Northeast Conference play by virtue of a 2-1 victory over Long Island University, Sunday, Oct.1 at University Field in Teaneck, NJ.

In the 40th minute, sophomore midfielder Alejandro Bedoya (Weston, FL/ASES Group) (Weston, FL/St. Thomas Aquintas) sprinted past two Blackbirds, then beat a third before sliding a pass to junior forward Pino Tubito (East Hanover, NJ/St. Thomas Aquinas) into the corner. Tubito cut back and fed junior midfielder Adrian Dinculescu (Ramnicu Valcea, /Ramsey) (Ramnuci Valcea, Romania/ASES Group) at the corner of the 18-yard box, who then connected with forward Samson Malijani (Lusaka, Zambia, /La Sapienza) (Lusaka, Zambia/Kafue). The freshman notched his third goal of the season ? his second game-winning tally in as many games ? bending a ball from 18-yards out into the upper left corner.

“It feels good to get a win today, as well as earning another three points,” said Head Coach Seth Roland.

Dinculescu put the Knights (5-3-2, 2-0 NEC) ahead 1-0, three minutes following the opening tap, en route to recording his second goal of the season, as the junior redirected a cross from Bedoya into the right side of the net.

However, LIU responded in the 15th minute when Mohammad Mashriqi's (Flushing, NY/Flushing) shot caromed off the right post and Frank Alesci (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) cashed in off the rebound, collecting his first goal of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Elvir Prasovic (Astoria, NY/Newcomers) (Astoria, NY/Newcomers) stoned one shot to pick up the win for Fairleigh Dickinson. Alex Fatovic (Falls Chruch, VA/George Mason) posted three saves in the Blackbirds' (2-8-0, 0-2 NEC) losing effort.

The Knights host Sacred Heart at 1:00 p.m., Saturday Oct. 7 at University Field.
