Fairleigh Dickinson men’s soccer standout Jack McVey was named adidas/Northeast Conference Player of the Week.
With only three weeks left in the regular season, the junior made sure the Knights would stay atop the NEC standings, contributing a goal and an assist to help FDU split the weekend series and earn this week’s adidas/NEC Player of the Week award. The first-year midfielder, who transferred to FDU after playing at NJIT for two seasons, played mightily in a Friday night matchup against Monmouth that saw the Hawks prevail, 1-0, in double overtime after he had created two scoring chances in the first OT session.
Regardless of the decision, McVey continued his strong play on Sunday, lifting the Knights to a 2-1 come from behind victory over red-hot Quinnipiac. Trailing 1-0 in the 67thminute, he sent a perfectly placed cross to classmate Karlis Putans, who headed it in from the middle of the box. McVey then took matters in to his own hands, scoring the game-deciding goal on a penalty kick with 74:16 showing on the clock. It was his team-leading fourth goal of the season, all of which have been game-winners.
