For the sixth time in as many chances, junior Liat Vizenfeld was named the Northeast Conference Bowler of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday, Jan. 29.
There was no team better than the Knights over the first two days of the 26-team Kutztown University Invitational, an event that welcomed all seven NEC programs and 14 of the nation's top-20 ranked teams. With Vizenfeld leading the charge, FDU went a perfect 12-0 in match play to extend its overall win streak to 29 in a row and earn the No. 1 seed in Sunday's championship bracket.Â
For the entire three-day event, Vizenfeld compiled a 21.24 overall frame average to lead all NEC bowlers who contested the tournament. After helping the Knights bowl only the seventh 300 Baker Game in NCAA history on Friday, Vizenfeld was sharp again during Saturday's traditional team matches. The Israeli-born bowler posted a 221.5 average over the course of six games and earned a spot on the KU All-Tournament First Team as a result.
Vizenfeld came up eight pins shy of capturing Tournament MVP honors. She opened Saturday's competition with a 208-pin performance in FDU's win over No. 2 Maryland-Eastern Shore. Vizenfeld threw a 256 game in a win over No. 15 Delaware State and later topped that performance by rolling a 258 in a convincing victory over Coppin State. Helping power the Knights past No. 8 Vanderbilt, Vizenfeld ended her day with a 224 game. For the weekend, she filled 87.0 percent of frames bowled and cashed in on 56.7 percent of her strike attempts. Her non-split spare percentage was .883 over the course of 15 matches.
