Knights Lose Star Guard Darian Anderson for Remainder of Season

HACKENSACK, N.J. – Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball senior guard Darian Anderson underwent successful foot surgery on Monday morning but will miss the remainder of his final season with the Knights.

One of the most electrifying players to don the Burgundy & Blue, Anderson – whose name is etched throughout the program's record books -- averaged a team-high 14.1 points and 2.1 steals across 15 games this season.

On the loss of his star guard and his legacy at Fairleigh Dickinson, head coach Greg Herenda said, "It is a very unfortunate end to an incredible collegiate career. From day one, Darian made our program competitive again in the NEC and beyond. In his very first game, Darian led us to one of our program's most historic victories at St. Joe's in Philadelphia."

"He is obviously in rarified air here at FDU and will go down as one of the all-time greats but I will always remember him as a champion on and off of the basketball court."

Anderson's illustrious career concludes with a myriad of accomplishments including a 2016 Northeast Conference Championship, a pair of All-NEC Second Team selections and two NABC All-District awards.

Herenda continued, "It saddens me and everyone involved in our program that he won't be able to play for us here at FDU anymore but Darian will remain a huge part of our team for the rest of this regular season and beyond."

Anderson started the first 86 games of his career with the Knights before missing his first-ever game last season. The Washington, D.C. native is the only player in school history to reach 1,500 points and dish out 300 assists.

In addition to his 1,538 career points, which rank eighth all-time at FDU, Anderson finishes his tenure second in steals (201), third in 3-pointers (170) and seventh in both assists (354) and made field goals (541). Additionally, Anderson's 1,362 career field goal attempts are the most by any player in the program's 68-year history.

Across his 106 career games, Anderson averaged 14.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists with a 39.7 percent field goal percentage and 77.7 percent free throw clip.

The Knights are 1-1 in Anderson's absence including a 73-72 win over Mount St. Mary's last Saturday. Next up is a home date with St. Francis Brooklyn this Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Prior to tip-off the Knights will recognize Anderson for his accomplishments.
