Anderson Earns Second NEC Player of the Week Honor This Season

SOMERSET, N.J. -- Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball junior guard Darian Anderson has been named Northeast Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.

Anderson has the defending NEC Champions out to a 7-1 start in conference play, which matches their best since the 2004-05 season. The junior guard helped the Knights to a 2-0 week with wins over St. Francis Brooklyn (57-40) and LIU Brooklyn (83-66) this past week by averaging 18.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.5 steals per contest.

In Saturday's first-place showdown against LIU,  Anderson scored a game-high 25 points on just nine shots, while adding nine rebounds, five assists and three steals. The Washington, D.C. native also continued his great shooting at the free throw line by converting 11-of-12 (91.6%).

On Anderson receiving the honor, Knights head coach Greg Herenda said, "I am so happy that Darian is again being recognized by our conference. Darian continues to play with great toughness and skill, but his sole focus is on winning and therein lies his best quality -- he is a winner and he plays on a team full of them."

Anderson is the NEC's third-leading scorer at 18.2 ppg and ranks in the top-10 in no less than seven different categories. He is currently second in the NEC in free throw shooting (.861), steals (1.7) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.53), fourth in 3-pointers made (2.4), fifth in 3-point accuracy (.407) and eighth in assists (3.2).

The Knights return to action this Saturday, January 26 when they close out their season series against St. Francis Brooklyn. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Brooklyn Heights, N.Y.
