The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's basketball team will look to extend its Northeast Conference win-streak to five games as they host the Red Flash of Saint Francis PA on Saturday, Jan. 21. Tip-off at Stratis Arena is slated for 4:30 pm.
The Knights improved to 9-9 on the season with a 4-2 NEC mark after a 71-65 upset over LIU Brooklyn on Monday, Jan. 16. After trailing by as many as 11 points in the first half, the Knights outscored LIU, 13-7 in the final five minutes to earn the win.
Senior Mariyah Laury (Orange, NJ/Orange) led the team with 25 points and was rewarded for her efforts with an NEC Player of the Week nod.
The Red Flash are 6-11 on the season with a 3-3 mark in Northeast Conference play. In last weekend's action, SFPA fell to both Sacred Heart and Quinnipiac at home.
The Red Flash average 62.5 points per game, compared to their opponents' 71.3 points per contest. They are currently shooting .360 from the field with a .285 percentage from beyond the arc.
SFPA averages 38.5 rebounds per game, 3.4 less than their opponents, while turning the ball over 19.8 times per contest.
Alli Williams leads the squad in both scoring and rebounds with 16.4 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. Nickia Gibbs adds 12.2 points per game for the Red Flash.
The Red Flash holds the advantage, 19-31 in the all-time series, dating back to 1986. However, in games played at Stratis Arena, FDU holds a 12-11 record.
In last year's meetings, each team took their home game before the Red Flash defeated FDU in the quarterfinals of the NEC tournament on March 5.
In this year's first meeting the Knights fell, 56-69 in the Dec. 5 NEC opener. Laury led the Knights with 14 points in Loretto, PA.
The Knights will continue competition against the NEC's Western-Pennsylvania contingent with a home game against Robert Morris on Monday night.
