Brandes arrived at FDU in 2015 with 10 years of collegiate head coaching experience and more than 20 years of experience as a tennis instructor at the club level.
"I am very grateful to the search committee for selecting me to lead the Knights," Brandes said upon accepting the position. "FDU's men's and women's tennis teams have a long history of success and I am honored to take the lead in moving these programs forward."
Brandes capped his career at Drew by leading the men's program to its seven MAC/Freedom Conference Championships, six Landmark Conference Titles and five NCAA Tournament appearances. The year prior, one of his men's doubles teams won the Northeast ITA regional, qualified for the Small College Nationals and attained a rank of #7 nationally to earn All-American status.
In 2010, Brandes had possibly his most successful year at Drew as he led the men's and women's teams to Landmark Conference titles and trips to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
In 2007, Brandes was instrumental in the creation of the first ever collegiate tennis showcase in Costa Rica, which was held during the Coffee Bowl. The event is now considered the most prestigious junior tennis tournament in Central America.
Prior to Drew, Brandes spent one season as the head women's tennis coach at Montclair State University, however the program was dropped due to budget cuts.
