Cory Smith joined Fairleigh Dickinson as Assistant Director of Athletic Communications in May of 2018.
Smith comes from Muhlenberg College, where he served as the Athletic Communications Assistant for nearly two years. Smith shared responsibility for coverage of all 22 of Muhlenberg's Division III athletic teams, including overseeing the Centennial Conference champion in women's basketball in the 2016-17 season.
Â
At Muhlenberg, Smith revamped the Mules' video streaming platform and helped to integrate instant replay and remote camera operation into production and increased use of in-game graphics during live events. Through his work in video and graphic design, Smith also played a part in nearly doubling Muhlenberg athletics' Instagram followers in his first year.
Â
Smith has served as a professional in athletic communications for three years, starting as an intern at Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C., during the 2015-16 school year before moving north to Muhlenberg. While at Wofford, Smith was the primary contact for the Terriers' soccer, women's basketball and tennis programs while serving as a secondary contact for football and baseball.
Â
A graduate of Washington and Lee University, Smith was an All-ODAC relief pitcher and a four-year letter winner for the Generals baseball team. He appeared in 50 games and pitched 100 innings, racking up 66 strikeouts and recording 10 career saves, which was the program's all-time record at the time.
Â
He received his first experience in the field in W&L's sports information department, where he served as a student worker for four years, with his main role being the public address announcer for the Generals' home volleyball matches. He also recorded video for highlights and helped with day-to-day office tasks.
