Jim Carr
Jim Carr, who is in his second season as a member of the Rhode Island men's basketball coaching staff, is the 2013 Al LoBalbo Award recipient. Carr and his wife, Natalie, established "In Brayden's Eyes, The Brayden Carr Foundation Inc." after their late son, Brayden James, had his life taken at the age of two and half. Out of horrific tragedy, in May 2011, the Carr family dedicated their lives to honoring their son's indomitable spirit and infectious enthusiasm for life through positive endeavors. By way of service projects and fundraising ventures, they hope to provide athletic, social, rehabilitative, and academic opportunities to children with seizure conditions and their related physical needs, as well as provide humanitarian support/relief to their parents.
Carr also spent 13 seasons on the coaching staff at Rutgers, including five seasons (2004-05 to 2008-09) as an assistant coach. During that span, Carr served as recruiting coordinator for the Scarlet Knights in 2009-10, before assuming the role of director of basketball operations role. He had previously served in that capacity from 1997-2000 and has an extensive background that includes over 20 years of coaching, administration and recruiting experience at the high school and college levels.
Known as a tireless worker and recruiter, Carr mentored numerous Scarlet Knights standouts, most notably All-BIG EAST selection and 2006 NBA first-round choice Quincy Douby and 2010 NBA Draft selection and current Washington Wizard Hamady N'diaye.
Carr's extensive international experience has developed valuable recruiting inroads for RU. He was instrumental in the program signing highly-touted prospects from South America, Africa and Europe. He has also coached multiple all-star teams on overseas tours, including trips to the Ukraine and to the Bahamas.
The Freeland, Pa., native began his second stint at Rutgers in September 2002 after spending two years as an assistant coach at FDU under former head coach Tom Green. Carr began his coaching career as the athletic director/head basketball coach at the York (Pa.) Country Day school He has also served as an assistant at Kings (Pa.) College and Stroudsburg High School and was the Assistant Director for the Invitational Basketball Camps in Stroudsburg, Pa. Carr earned a general studies degree from York College in 1990.
