Knights Drop San Diego Doubleheader in Season Opener

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. — FDU softball (0-2, 0-0) kicked off their 2026 campaign by participating in the USD/UCSD Co-Host Tournament. The Knights played a doubleheader on game one of the tournament Friday night, dropping both matchups to Boise State and UCSD.

GAME ONE

Sophomore Jamie Sencion was given the ball to start off the 2026 season. Sencion held her own against a formidable Boise State lineup, pitching five innings and striking out three batters. Sencion gave up four walks and five hits, but limited the Bronco damage to just two runs. Freshman Katie Simonka relieved Sencion, shutting down Boise State in a scoreless inning.

Unfortunately for the Knights, they could not find the offense to back up the solid pitching. Boise State's Julianne Rose completely silenced the FDU bats, striking out ten en route to a one-hit complete game shutout. Sophomore Dimitra Milonopoulos scratched across the only hit for the Knights in game one, and was the only baserunner for the Knights in the game. FDU dropped the opener by a score of 2-0.

GAME TWO

FDU then played UCSD in the nightcap of the tournament's opening day. The Knights offense struggled again against solid Triton pitching. Celeste Quezada logged the lone hit for the Knights. FDU would drop their second matchup of the day by a score of 8-0 in a shortened five-inning game.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Knights return to action on Saturday afternoon with another doubleheader in the USD/UCSD Co-Host Tournament. FDU faces Colorado State at 2:30 p.m. ET, followed by a matchup with Omaha at 7:30 p.m. ET.
