O'Sullivan Shines in Doubleheader Against Stony Brook

HACKENSACK, N.J. – FDU softball (21-19, 11-4) split a mid-week doubleheader against Stony Brook (19-19, 13-5) on Tuesday afternoon. The Knights took the first game by a score of 6-2, before falling 15-0 in the second.

Game One
It was the Kailee O'Sullivan Show in Hackensack during game one. FDU's freshman first baseman had an unbelievable day at the plate, helping the Knights engineer a big comeback. FDU found themselves trailing 2-1 heading into the fifth inning of action. Their lone run until that point in the game had come from the bat of O'Sullivan, who had an RBI single in the first. With two runners on in the fifth, O'Sullivan stepped to the plate, and delivered for FDU. She laced a single to center field to score both runners and give FDU ta 3-2. The freshman was not done either. In the sixth inning, O'Sullivan found herself at the plate again after a small Knights rally. With the bases loaded, O'Sullivan hit a double down the right field line to score two more runs, padding the Knight lead to 5-2. O'Sullivan finished the day 4-4 with 5 RBIs, driving in all but one of the Knights' runs in the 6-2 victory. Jordyn Hemingway drove in the final insurance run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth. FDU was also helped out by some stellar pitching in the win. Brooklyn Shroyer got the start, and delivered four quality innings of work. The sophomore allowed just two runs on two hits, striking out four in the process. Shroyer was relieved by Julia Swan, who came in and shut the door on Stony Brook in dominant fashion. Swan pitched three shutout innings to pick up the win, allowing just three hits and striking out six.

Game Two
Stony Brook came out with a vengeance following their game one loss. The Seawolves jumped on the board early, plating four runs in the first. The Seawolves did not slow down on the offensive end, continuing to pile runs on against the Knights' pitching staff. After plating more runs in the second and third innings, Stony Brook broke the game open with a six-run fifth inning, taking a commanding 15-0 lead. FDU was retired in the bottom half of the fifth, allowing the run rule to be enforced and giving Stony Brook the win.

WHAT'S NEXT
The Knights will be back in action in the coming weekend when they host Le Moyne for a Northeast Conference homestand. FDU and Le Moyne will get things started with a Friday doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. in Hackensack. Coverage will be available on NEC Front Row.
