JERSEY CITY, N.J. – FDU softball (13-14, 5-1) faced off against Saint Peter's in a mid-week doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. The Knights and Peacocks split the two games, with the Knights taking the second.
Game 1
The Knights dropped a tough contest to the Peacocks in the first game of the doubleheader. Saint Peter's jumped out to an early lead, going up 4-0 on FDU starter Brooklyn Shroyer through the first five innings. The top of the sixth saw FDU put together a fantastic rally to get back into the game. Erika Barela hit a solo home run to get the Knights on the board, and get some momentum stirring. After Barela's blast, FDU began stringing together some hits, loading up the bases. Madison Rishel hit an RBI single to make it a 4-2 game, and then Brianna Holguin completed the comeback, lacing a two-run single to tie the game at four. The Knights were unable to break the tie, and things went on to the seventh inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Saint Peter's put a few runners on, and had the winning run on third base. The Peacocks' Tai Turner hit into a fielder's choice, and the Knights were unable to nab the winning run at home, resulting in a walk-off win for Saint Peter's.
Game 2
The Knights came out with some strong momentum in game two following their late offensive outburst in the first game. FDU jumped on the board quick, getting out to a 2-0 lead across the first two innings. Erika Barela hit her second home run of the day to help the Knights get ahead. FDU also got a stellar performance out of Isabella Herring. Herring had a 3-3 day driving in three runs to help the Knights pull ahead. In the circle, FDU got a fantastic start out of MaryJane Limon. Limon gave the Knights five innings of one-run ball. Julia Swan proceeded to come in to throw two perfect innings of relief to shut the door on the Peacocks.
