DELAND, FL. – FDU softball (0-2, 0-0) dropped two games in the Frank Griffin Classic on Friday to kick off the 2025 season. The Knights fell to Chattanooga in the season opener by a score of 8-0, followed by a loss to Stetson by a score of 6-0.
vs. Chattanooga
The Knights opened their season against a tough Chattanooga team on Friday morning. FDU sent start sophomore pitcher
Brooklyn Shroyer out to take the circle for the season opener. Shroyer looked solid, but just a few big hits put a damper on her statline. Shroyer gave up five hits and walked six, but was able to strand a majority of runners she allowed on. Her one blemish came in the third inning, when she gave up a three-run home run to Chattanooga's Presley Williamson, breaking the game open in the Mocs' favor. Shroyers final line stood at 4.0 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 3 SO, 6 BB. The Knights also got their first look at freshman
Madison Dollard, who came in relief of Shroyer for her collegiate debut. Dollard logged 1.1 IP for FDU in the loss. The Knights' downfall was offense however. The bats were shut down by a dominant performance out of Chattanooga starter Peja Goold. Goold allowed just two base-runners, on one hit and one walk. She struck out 11 Knights across a six-inning complete game effort. FDU's
Ayden Stone picked up the lone hit for the Knights with two outs in the sixth inning.
vs. Stetson
FDU continued their day by facing off against the host team Stetson. The Knights struggled offensively in the second game as well, only picking up two hits in a 6-0 loss. The Knights sent out
Julia Swan to start game two, who provided some solid work over the beginning of the game. Swan went four innings, allowing only three earned runs. She was relieved by freshman
Jamie Sencion, who pitched two innings in her collegiate debut. The Knights also saw two freshmen pick up their first collegiate hit, with
Madison Rishel and
Rebecca Merkes picking up singles.
The Knights will be back in action on Saturday, February 8 for day two of the Frank Griffin Classic. They face off against Binghamton at 9:30 a.m, followed by another match-up against Stetson at 3:00 p.m. Live stats will be available at FDUKnights.com.
