SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Knights secured the series victory by winning the final game of the three-game series in impressive fashion.
In the final matchup between FDU and Le Moyne, Shroyer delivered an absolute gem of a game, tossing a complete-game no-hitter while also striking out an impressive 12 batters. From the first pitch to the final out, Shroyer dominated the Le Moyne hitters, showcasing her command of pitches and ability to keep batters off balance throughout the game. Her mastery on the mound was evident as she consistently painted the corners of the strike zone and effectively mixed up her pitches to keep hitters guessing.
The no-hitter not only secured a crucial win for FDU but also solidified Shroyer's place in the record books as this no-hitter is the first since Nicole Webb threw one in 2005 and the second in FDU history. Her remarkable achievement will be remembered as one of the highlights of the season for FDU.
The game kicked off quickly for the Knights as Sydney Newton drew a walk and Ayden Stone's single up the middle-advanced Newton to second. However, despite the early chance, FDU couldn't capitalize further, ending the inning with two runners left on base.
Le Moyne's first inning saw them go down in order, as they failed to get a runner on base against Shroyer.
FDU's offense continued to press in the second inning as Andreya Flores drew a walk which led to Megan Berg's impressive RBI-triple to the right-center field gap that brought Flores home, giving FDU their first run of the game. With that hit, Berg has reached base safely in seven-straight games and has the team's longest active hitting streak at five games. A fielding error allowed Berg to score, extending FDU's lead to 2-0.
Le Moyne's bats remained silent in the second inning, as after a walk, they went down in order all by way of the strikeout.
In the third inning, FDU's Erika Barela singled to right-center, but the team couldn't convert it into a runs.
Le Moyne continued to struggle on offense, with Shroyer striking out two in the inning.
In the fourth, Shroyer continued her dominance, striking out another two batters.
FDU managed to extend their lead in the fifth inning, courtesy of Ayden Stone's RBI double, bringing home Olivia Christopoul.
Le Moyne managed to get a runner on base in the bottom of the fifth inning but couldn't capitalize.
Both teams remained scoreless in the sixth inning, with FDU unable to add to their lead despite getting runners on base.
In the final inning FDU defense held strong, denying Le Moyne any chance of a comeback. With Brooklyn Shroyer's masterful pitching performance, FDU secured a shutout victory over Le Moyne, with a final score of 3-0.
Coach
Chris Foye stated "Brooklyn was dominant today. As great as she pitched, our team did an awesome job getting some big hits to give us a few early runs and our defense made some tough plays to secure the no-hitter for her. It was an overall great team win heading into a tough matchup this weekend up at Merrimack.
The Knights head to North Andover, Massachusetts to face Merrimack in a three-games series over the weekend starting at 1 PM on April 13th.
