Walk-Off Homer Lifts Knights to Victory Over Holy Cross

NORFOLK, Va. – A timely, and dramatic, walk-off homerun from Ayden Stone snapped a two-game losing skid and earned the Knights a 1-0 win over Holy Cross. As a result, the Knights inch closer to .500 and improve their record to 5-6.

The Knights continue to play in tightly contested pitching duels as this was their fifth game where neither team scored more than three runs. Chris Foye's clutch crew is a strong 4-1 in these games, all of which have been decided by one run.

Freshman standout Brooklyn Shroyer took the mound and continued her season-long trend of stifling opposing teams at the plate. Shroyer had another outstanding performance on the mound to improve her record to 5-2 on the season. Shroyer shut down Holy Cross by only allowing three hits throughout the game, all by way of the single. Shroyer delivered yet another double-digit strike out day, with 11. This brings her total to three double-digit strikeout performances for the year.

Holy Cross' best chance of the day came in the fourth third inning when they posted runners on first and second with one out. Shroyer pounded the zone for a much-needed strike out and then got the next batter to fly out as the freshman escaped the jam.

With the Knights tallying only four hits in the first six innings, the team knew it was time to step up in the bottom of the seventh inning. At that point, the game was still locked at 0-0. Ayden Stone stepped up to the plate with no outs and seized the moment by walking the game off with a single swing of the bat. Stone capped off the game with a walk-off home run, marking her first collegiate home run in impressive fashion.

FDU continues to be resilient as they have now shaken off an eight-run or more loss and come back to win the next game three times this season.
