Knights Triumph in Showdown Against Bucknell

Jackson Township, N.J. - In the first game of a three-game weekend series, the Knights clashed with the Bucknell Bison in a single game.

Brooklyn Shroyer, showcasing her pitching prowess, took the mound for her third start of the season. She blazed through the first three innings retiring the first nine batters in succession while striking out an impressive seven.

However, the Bison broke the silence in the top of the fourth inning, initiating a rally. A well-placed bunt by Malone advanced a runner to second, setting the stage for Smith's single to left field. Despite an exceptional play by Andreya Flores in foul territory for the second out, Bucknell seized the opportunity, with Popella delivering a clutch two-RBI single, breaking the scoring deadlock.

Undeterred, FDU rallied in the bottom of the fourth, ignited by Megan Berg's double to left center. Flores' groundball moved Berg into scoring position, and Erika Barela's infield single, combined with a stolen base, allowed Berg to cross home plate. Abbey Hoesman then stepped up to the plate hit her second double of the game, leveling the score at 2-2.

With the game on a knife's edge, Shroyer returned to the mound stifling the Bison's offense for the next six consecutive outs, maintaining the deadlock heading into the bottom of the sixth.

FDU seized the opportunity in the sixth inning, capitalizing on an error to take the lead. Berg's hustle and heads-up baserunning put her on third after a passed ball as Flores hit a clutch RBI single to break the tie.

The Knights' defense, anchored by Shroyer's steady hand, held firm in the final inning. With Flores catching a runner stealing second, FDU secured the victory with a narrow 3-2 margin.

Looking ahead, the Knights return to Jackson Township, N.J., where they will face off against Hofstra and Bucknell once more on 2/25.
