HACKENSACK, N.J. - FDU softball head coach
Chris Foye became the program's all-time winningest coach Wednesday when the Knights bested Monmouth 2-0 in the opening game of a doubleheader at FDU Softball Field. The Knights (23-27, 9-11 NEC) weren't able to get the bats going until late in the nightcap, falling to the Hawks 6-3 with one game remaining in the regular season.

Graduate student
Alayna Savaglio was flat-out dominant in the circle, throwing her 15th complete game of the season and third shutout of the year, fanning seven Hawks while allowing only five hits in seven innings. FDU etched the opening run of the game in the third when sophomore
Angela Costa reached base on an error by the Hawks' third basemen. She would slide over to second after a sacrifice bunt by fellow sophomore
Sydney Newton. Another sacrificed at-bat by yet another second-year in
Isabella Herring pushed Costa to third. She'd score the first run of the day on an error by the Monmouth shortstop to put senior
Cassidy Triska on-base. Costa would later be involved in the second run of the day when another infield error scored
Jess DeWitt to log a 2-0 lead in the fourth, one that would stand. Savaglio was able to pitch her way out of trouble down the stretch. Monmouth did not have a runner reach third base until the fifth frame.
The win was head coach
Chris Foye's 93rd at FDU, the most of any coach in program history.

Monmouth came out blazing in the nightcap with a pair of runs in the opening inning, followed by three in the third and one in the fourth. While FDU improved their game-over-game hits total by three for four hits in the evening session, the Hawks kept FDU at bay with the first Knights' mark coming in the third inning, a single through the left side of the infield by Herring. Junior
Abbey Hoesman would produce an RBI double to score DeWitt in the sixth while freshman
Alex Hooper raced home on a wild pitch to bring FDU to within four, down 6-2. Senior
Hailey Ramberg came on to pinch hit in the seven and plated home sophomore
Payton Wagner with an RBI sacrifice fly to nearly the center field warning track.
Malori Bell made the start, throwing four complete innings. Bell was relived by sophomore
Julia Swan to lock down the final three frames of action. Swan struckout two, allowing two hits and no runs in 11 batters faced without recording a walk on 49 pitches.
FDU softball closes-out the regular season on Friday, May 5 at 4 p.m. when the Knights welcome Wagner to finish off the three-game Northeast Conference series at FDU Softball Field live on NEC Front Row.
