DAYTONA BEACH, F.L.- LPGA International played host to another NEC Championship as the men took their turn in Daytona Beach. After 54 holes, FDU (+49) took a 6
th place finish back to Hackensack with four players placing in the top 20. LIU (+6) won the team title and were led by Marcelo Mexsen (-4), who captured the individual crown.
FDU shot a 309 in Sunday's opening round. The week got off to a promising start for
Nicolas Normand (+8). He strung together three birdies for an opening round 76. Right behind him was
Jaime Julve (+11). The Spaniard made 12 pars on his way to a 77.
Monday's second round consisted of some improvement for FDU. They posted a 300 and put plenty of circles on their scorecard with 13 combined birdies. This time Julve paced the Knights with a score of +1. Normand pushed for a 75 and continued his strong start.
Leon Heitz (+11) bounced back for a second-round score of 75, as well.
To wrap up the week, FDU put together their best round of the tournament. The Knights shot a 296.
Pyae Phyo Thu (+11) led the charge for FDU as he surged through the first 10 holes for a score of -4. He would eventually finish the round even. Normand closed the week with a +1 and Heitz followed closely with a +2.
FDU led the field with four eagles made over the three rounds. Phyo Thu was responsible for two of those. Normand was FDU's highest finisher tying for 15
th place.
