HACKENSACK, N.J. - FDU softball notched win No. 20 on the season Thursday with a 7-2 victory in non-conference play over Saint Peter's with just five games remaining in the 2023 regular season. Sophomore
Payton Wagner was sent to the circle for
Chris Foye's side and didn't look back after striking out the Peacocks' leadoff batter on three pitches, finishing her outing with three strikeouts on a total of 97 pitches en route to logging her first victory of the campaign.
On the other side, Saint Peter's dug deep into their bullpen with no Peacocks arm throwing more than two innings of work. The Peacocks were held to just one hit in the first four innings as the Knights combined for four home runs during the stretch.
Savannah Thornell made the start at first base in the evening tilt and hit a pair of homers as the senior sits with four on the year.
Courtney Mahoney added another dinger in the third while Northeast Conference Prime Performer
Jess DeWitt hit her second home run in three games for a season total of four. With two runners on,
Cassidy Triska joined the parade followed by the second blast of the night off the bat of Thornell.
Saint Peter's strung a pair of hits together in the sixth and the end result was a two-run single by Sam Miller to get the visitors on the road. FDU clinched the season series with the Peacocks 2-1 after the sides played a doubleheader earlier in the year.
The Knights close-out NEC play this weekend with a doubleheader against Wagner tomorrow, April 28 at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. followed by a single game tentatively scheduled for Sunday, April 30 at 12 p.m. All three games will be streamed on NEC Front Row.
