#2 Men's Basketball Tips-Off NEC Championship Quarterfinal Wednesday Against #7 St. Francis Brooklyn

HACKENSACK, N.J. - Turning around from a 4-22 season a year ago and picked tied for sixth in the 2022-23 Northeast Conference Coaches Preseason Poll, FDU men's basketball concluded the 74th regular season in program history 17-14, posting a 10-6 mark in the nine-team NEC. Qualifying for the 34th NEC tournament in program history, the Knights welcome-in #7 St. Francis Brooklyn on Thursday, March 1 at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinal round.

The Knights are bolstered by a trio of All-NEC honorees as graduate student guards Demetre Roberts and Grant Singleton earned First Team and Second Team All-NEC recognition, respectively, while sophomore forward Ansley Almonor was named the league's Most Improved Player and earned a spot on the Third Team All-NEC.

In Tobin Anderson's first season at the helm, FDU exceeded expectations, leading to a second-place league finish and non-conference highlights including taking Loyola Chicago to overtime in the season opener, defeating Saint Joseph's on the road and besting Columbia in overtime in the Big Apple. FDU's high octane offense averages over 78 points per game and the Burgundy and Blue are one of the best free throw shooting teams in the NEC, clocking in at No. 1 on the conference rankings making 76.0 percent of free throws against conference opponents.

Roberts finished his fifth collegiate regular season as the third-highest scorer in the league and with Tuesday's All-NEC announcement, the Mount Vernon, N.Y. product became the first Knight since 2019 to earn a slot on the First Team.

All time, Wednesday's tilt marks the third time FDU faced their regular season finale opponent in the opening round of the conference tournament. The first two were Wagner in 1999-00 and Monmouth in the 2002-03 season. In the NEC tournament, FDU is 2-2 against St. Francis Brooklyn and swept the Terriers in the regular season campaign this year.

Tickets for Wednesday's game are on-sale now at FDUKnights.com/MBBQF.

The winner of the battle will advance to the semifinal on Saturday, March 4 at either 6 p.m. or 8 p.m. live on ESPN3, NEC Front Row and SNY.

The 2022-23 men's basketball season is presented by Bogota Savings Bank.
