SAVANNAH, Ga.- FDU competed for the first time in 2023 this weekend, finishing in 6
th place at the Savannah Intercollegiate. The team fired a score of +21 over three rounds.
The grounds at the Club at Savannah Harbor were welcoming towards
Pyae Phyo Thu. His 68 in the final round was good enough to propel the sophomore to a tie for ninth place, which ties his highest finish ever. His best work came on the course's par 4s, where he averaged a score of -1. Phyo Thu finished the weekend with a score of +1
Jaime Julve bounced back from an opening round 80 with scores of 68 and 70 in the final two rounds. His score of +2 placed him 13
th among all golfers. Julve's 11 birdies tied for the third most in the field.
Leon Heitz followed up Julve with a +8, which tied him for 37
th.
Saum Sabetian and
Nicolas Normand rounded out the Knights' five tying for 64
th and 73
rd place, respectively.
The Knights put themselves in a bit of a hole after round one on Saturday, where they shot a 312 as a team. However, their 285 in round two placed them back into the top half of teams at the intercollegiate. This score was also tied for the third -lowest fired by any team in any round over the weekend. FDU finished the weekend with a 288 in the final round.
The Knights will head to LPGA International in Daytona, Florida on March 9-10 to compete in the Sacred Heart Invitational.
