TEANECK, N.J.- LIU took down FDU by a score of 1-0 on the final day of the regular season Thursday night in Teaneck.
The loss snaps both FDU's 17-match unbeaten streak against NEC opponents and their 11-match unbeaten streak at home.
With major NEC seeding implications, the game was testy from the opening kick. In the 24
th minute, LIU capitalized on a strong buildup and beat FDU goalkeeper
Spencer King for the game's opening goal.
Just five minutes later, LIU threatened to double their 1-0 lead. However, King made a diving save on a dangerous shot to keep some momentum with FDU. '
In the 34
th minute,
Alberto Herranz created a turnover in FDU's attacking third. He rocketed a shot that tested the LIU goalkeeper but was not good enough to equalize the game. LIU secured the save and kept the Knights off the board.
FDU continued to maintain a good amount of the possession for the remainder of the first-half. In the 37
th minute,
Tony Gomez came inches away from equalizing the game after volleying a ball out of the air that rose just past the crossbar.
LIU held onto their 1-0 lead as the teams headed to the halftime break.
The Sharks earned a free-kick in the 51
st that they were able to put on target. King confidently snagged the ball out of the air to make the save.
FDU struggled to create any real dangerous scoring opportunities as LIU played the second-half very conservatively.
Jayd Hamdaoua was able to spur a chance in the 58
th minute when he got the ball on his right foot and laced a shot on target. Unfortunately, this attempt was also saved.
Matt Giraldo had one more shot as time was winding down in the match but could not put the ball in the back of the net.
LIU outshout FDU 12-10 in the match. FDU put five shots on frame and King made eight saves.

FDU has earned the #3 seed in the NEC Championship. Their quest to defend their 2022 title begins Sunday with an opening round match at University Stadium against #6 Le Moyne. The match will commence at 1 p.m. and will be streamed on NEC Front Row.
