TEANECK. N.J.- FDU and Sacred Heart played to a scoreless draw after 90-minutes of action at University Stadium on Sunday afternoon. FDU's overall record now sits at 5-2-4 and 2-0-2 in NEC play.
In 2022, FDU ended Sacred Heart's season in the NEC semi-final 3-0 setting up a highly-contested rematch.
Sacred Heart outshot the Knights 11-6 in the opening 45-minutes. Their best scoring opportunity came in the 41
st minute when their leading goal-scorer, Olliver Perrson, found himself in the middle of the box with the ball on his foot. He took a good swing at it but his shot was saved by the foot of
Spencer King. King made two saves in what would be his sixth clean-sheet of the season.
The second-half evened out the scoring opportunities. FDU totaled six shots in the half and held the Pioneers to just four. Neither team was able to find the back of the net as both defensive units played a sound match.
The match was very physical. The teams combined for 21 fouls with FDU being responsible for 14 of them. There were seven yellow cards issued with six of them being issued to Pioneer players.
In the end, Sacred Heart outshot the Knights 15-12.
What They're Saying
"It was typical of our games versus Sacred Heart the past couple of years…hard fought battles between two teams that can play good soccer along with a hard-nosed physical presence. It had a bit of a playoff feel to it along with a really good atmosphere for Hispanic Heritage Day. Overall, it was a fun, exciting game. We need to be a little sharper with our attacking actions in the attacking third, but it's good to get another clean sheet." Said Head Coach
Seth Roland.
