Flores Powers FDU to Game One Win Over Bryant, Knights Fall in Nightcap Saturday

HACKENSACK, N.J. - Fairleigh Dickinson softball extended their win streak to three games before falling to Bryant in the second game of the three-game series on the banks of the Hackensack as Northeast Conference action continues.

Alayna Savaglio got the start in game one in what turned out to be a pitchers' duel for the first four innings before the Knights broke-open the scoring affair in the bottom of the first. Savaglio struck out a career-best 16 batters in seven innings, six of which were shutouts. The Middletown, N.Y. native would walk just two while allowing only one earned run in the 2-1 win for FDU. Offensively, freshman Andreya Flores shined batting in both of the Knights' runs, hitting 2-for-3 on the afternoon, including a solo home run in the top of the sixth to break the tie and push FDU in front.

In game two the Knights turned to freshman Julia Swan for the start in the circle.  Swan tossed 2.1 innings of work allowing four earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts. After a scoreless first inning for both sides, Bryant opened the scoring in the second with a pair of runs, followed by another pair in the following frame. The Knights would answer back in the bottom of the third with a three-spot thanks to two home runs, a solo shot by junior Cassidy Triska, the reigning NEC Player of the Week, and a two-run bomb by freshman Jess DeWitt, four-time NEC Rookie of the Week, to score fellow freshman Sabrina Javorsky and bring the Knights within one, trailing the Bulldogs 4-3.

The Bulldogs would tack on one more run in the top half of the sixth and another pair in the seventh to win the nightcap, 7-3, and set-up a rubber game Sunday at FDU Softball Field.

"It was nice to get a split today after our offense and defense struggled at times," said head coach Chris Foye. "Our pitching was fantastic all-day long and kept us in both games. Tomorrow we will look to come back, make some adjustments and try to get another series win."

FDU's series with Bryant will conclude on Sunday, April 10, at 12 p.m. live on NEC Front Row.
