LITTLE SILVER, N.J., -The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team (3-4, 0-0 NEC) dropped its match to the Monmouth Hawks (7-0, 0-0 MAAC), losing 7-0 at the Little Silver Tennis Club on Wednesday evening.
Freshman Justas Trainauskas and junior Taiga Koyama fell short to the duo of Trent Massam and Victor Castro at the No. 3 doubles to start the match, 6-3. Niels Van Noord and Charlie Penman earned the doubles point for the Hawks after a 7-6 (2) win over redshirt senior Niclas Pietsch and senior Mehdi Dhouib at the No. 1 position. Sophomore Arjun Sriram and graduate student Moric Budinszky claimed a 7-6 (4) win over Dmitry Bezborodov and Gabriel Busato.
In singles play, freshman Fernando Tardin, lost 6-1, 6-0 contest to Trent Massam at No. 6 before Budinszky dropped his matchup against Busato in the No. 3 spot. Castro closed out the Monmouth victory with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Aryan Manchanda at No. 4. The match continued with Trainauskas at No. 1 losing the battle against Van Noord 6-3, 6-3. At No. 5, Pietsch came up short against Silva, 6-3, 7-6 (6). To finish the day, Sriram seized upon Bezborodov in the No. 2 spot. Sriram claimed the opening set 6-4, before falling in a super tiebreaker 7-6 (4), 10-8.
The Knights get back in action on Wednesday March 2 at 3 p.m. against NJIT at the Naimoli Tennis Center.
