Box Score OCEANSIDE, N.Y. -Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis (1-2, 0-0 NEC) picked up its first victory of the season, defeating Hofstra University (1-1, 0-0 CAA) in a non-conference contest by a final score of 5-2.
The Knights swept the courts in doubles against Hofstra, securing the first point of the match. First off the court was the duo of junior Teodors Pukse and redshirt senior Niclas Pietsch, having picked up a 6-2 win over Josh Reynolds and Bo Cautaerts at the No. 1 spot. At No. 3, the freshmen Justas Trainauskas and Thomas Linley defeated Ostap Kovalenko and Kaita Odani, 6-3. With FDU having won two out of three matches, the match at No. 2 went unfinished with graduate student Moric Budinszky and sophomore Arjun Sriram carrying a 5-3 lead over Hofstra's Matthew Garcia and Vincent Turina.
In singles action, Fairleigh Dickinson picked up wins in four of six courts. Trainauskas was the first Knight with a solo win when he won in straight sets at No. 2, 6-1, 6-3, over Hofstra's Kovalenko. Shortly after, Pukse won in a similar fashion at No. 1 with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Cautaerts. Budinszky recorded the fourth and decisive point for the Knights after defeating Garcia, 0-6, 6-4, (10). Fernando Tardin on No. 6 won the final match of the day 6-4, 6-4.
Up next, the Knights will head to Orangeburg, N.Y. for a non-conference match with St. Thomas Aquinas Saturday at the Match Point Tennis Club at 4:30 p.m.
