Men's Soccer Stuns Stonehill, Topples Skyhawks 7-2 to Stay Unbeaten in NEC Play

TEANECK, N.J. - FDU men's soccer (5-5-1, 3-0-1 NEC) ramped up the attack Sunday on Senior Day as the Burgundy and Blue faced-off against Stonehill (2-9-0, 0-3-0 NEC) at University Stadium. FDU toppled the Skyhawks in the first-ever meeting between the two conference foes 7-2.

How It Happened

First Half
  • Jeronimo Leguizamon attempted the Knights' first of their 20 shots in the match with his blast coming 25 seconds into the match. FDU set a new season-high in shots in the match.
  • Following an attempt on-target in the 2', newcomer Jaime Barbero opened the tally with a goal in the 4' to put FDU up 1-0 on Stonehill. FDU would score again 15 minutes later with a goal by junior forward Tony Gomez off a free kick that bent perfectly into the net to make it 2-0 in favor of the home side.
  • An own goal by the Skyhawks in the 30' made it 3-0 FDU while sophomore Kevin Leonhard connected with Gomez for his first of two goals on the afternoon to send FDU into the halftime break up 4-0.
Second Half
  • Following a series of line changes on both sides, Seth Roland's team tacked-on another score, Leonhard's second of the day, assisted by graduate student D'Shon DeGannes to further expand the Knights' lead.
  • With a penalty called against Stonehill in the 60', DeGannes was sent to the mark where he converted the penalty attempt for a goal making it 6-0.
  • Juan Martín Barahona came in relief of Spencer King to start the second half and conceded two goals to Stonehill.
  • Jayd Hamdaoua placed a goal in the Skyhawks' net in the 87', the cherry on top in a 7-2 victory.
