Men's Soccer Cruises to 3-1 Win at the Mount to Close Regular Season

EMMITSBURG, Md. - After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, the Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team (8-6-3, 6-1-2 NEC) cruised to a 3-1 road win over Mount St. Mary's (3-15-0, 1-8-0 NEC).

How it Happened
  • The Mount's Dominik Topolsky scored unassisted in the 30' to put the home side up 1-0.
  • Sophomore Jeremy Opong scored his fourth goal of the season in the 37' to even the tally at one goal a piece off an assist from freshman Mamadi Sangare - the first assist of his collegiate career.
  • Moving ahead to the 62' of play, sophomore defender Hugo Bacharach would punch-in his third score of the season with a beautiful header to break the draw and put the Knights up 2-1. He was assisted by Sangare and graduate student Stefano Pesce.
  • Tony Gomez would call curtains for the Burgundy and Blue in the 80' to make it 3-1. Gomez was assisted by Pesce on the long-range blast.
Inside the Box Score
  • Redshirt junior goalkeeper Spencer King faced a season-low one shot on goal in the match (30' goal) for the second time this season (8/30 at Army).
  • Opong and senior Noah Chia each put up a team-high two shots with Opong's score the lone on-target blast for the two.
  • Sunday's match is just the third time this season FDU held opponents to two statistical points (one goal, no assist) with the other two occurances happening on 10/3 (Merrimack) and 10/31 (Howard).
  • FDU also had double the corners in the fixture than the host did by a 6-3 tally.
