Knights Fall to St. Francis Brooklyn Sunday

TEANECK, N.J. - The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team (6-6-3, 4-1-2 NEC) fell 2-0 to St. Francis Brooklyn (8-4-1, 6-1-0 NEC) Sunday evening at University Stadium as the Knights' five-match unbeaten streak in conference play came to a close.

How it Happened
  • Not even eight minutes into the match, St. Francis Brooklyns' Tyler Swaby buried an early 7' goal assisted by El Mahdi Youssoufi and Dennis Coke to put the Terriers up 1-0.
  • FDU would fire off the next three shots (one on target) following the SFBK score.
  • Moving ahead to the 70', St. Francis Brooklyn would double their lead thanks to Youssoufi's 11th goal of the season assisted by Badr Mesrar and Ivan Tapuskovic to make it 2-0 Terriers which would be the tally at the final whistle.
Inside the Box Score
  • Seth Roland's Knights out-shot St. Francis Brooklyn 17-4 with seven Knights shots coming on goal.
  • Six FDU student-athletes played the full 90 minutes of play.
  • Sophomore Tony Gomez put up a team-high five shots (one on target) in the fixture - his most in a game this season.
Coach Roland's Thoughts
"This was one of those games that validates the theorem that soccer can be a cruel game. We out-shot them 17-4, had at least a half dozen clear-cut opportunities to score, but were not sharp in our finishing. They had two chances the whole game and scored both. So it's important to tip our caps to the Terriers on a very professional and outstanding performance. We played well in every way except where it counts - which is on the scoreboard. I appreciate the effort and competitiveness of our guys and I'm confident that we will work hard this week to prepare to bounce back next Sunday [10/31] versus Howard."

What's Next
The Knights next welcome Howard to University Stadium on Halloween (10/31) at 7 p.m for Senior Night live on NEC Front Row in the final home conference match of the regular season. FDU is slated to close out the regular season at Mount St. Mary's (Md.) on Sunday, November 7, at 1 p.m.

The 2021 men's soccer season is presented by Bogota Savings Bank.
