Men's Tennis Earns Second Straight Win

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team earned its second straight victory on Thursday, defeating Queens College 4-3 on the road.

The Knights (2-3) won all three of the doubles matches to start off with the first point. FDU then captured the first three singles points as well to clinch the overall match win. Sophomore Mehdi Dhouib and senior Ivan Solans Diaz each won in both singles and doubles for the Knights.

FDU earned both the first two doubles decisions in 6-4 matches, with the third doubles team of junior Maciej Autuch and freshman Andrei Oprisor along with the second doubles tandem of Solans Diaz and junior Moric Budinszky scoring the two wins. For Oprisor, the win was his first collegiate dual match victory.

With the doubles point in hand, the first doubles team of Dhouib and redshirt sophomore Niclas Pietsch completed the sweep by pulling out a 7-6 (4) victory in a tiebreak over Mariano Biblioni and Kareem Rashad of Queens.

Freshman Teodors Pukse at the no. 1 singles position improved to 5-0 on the season with a straight-set victory over Tim Ostheimer, 6-3, 6-0. Dhouib then followed with a straight-set win at the no. 2 spot, 6-4, 6-0, against Rashad, putting the Knights ahead 3-0 in the match. Solans Diaz then clinched the match for FDU with a 7-5, 6-3 victory at the fourth singles spot.

All three remaining singles matches were close bouts, with Pietsch and Autuch both taking their Queens opponents to three sets. Autuch battled back after dropping his first set to win 6-4 in the second stanza, but his opponent, Moritz Borges, then defeated Autuch by winning the third set 6-4. Pietsch played his adversary, Lucas Demuth, to a tiebreak in the first set but fell 6-7 (8), before rallying back for a 6-3 win in the second set. Demuth, however, pulled ahead and won the supertiebreaker, 10-8, to win the match.

Junior Youssef Sader competed in his first dual match of the season at no. 6 singles, falling in straight sets 4-6, 6-7 (3) to Biblioni.

The Knights seek a third straight win on Saturday, facing local rival NJIT in Newark at 1 p.m.
