Hackensack, NJ- The FDU Athletic Department is mourning the loss of longtime coach and administrator, Robert Metz. Over 32 years of service to the Knights, Metz served as the intramural director, professor and chairman of the physical education department, wrestling coach, golf coach, and athletic director. 

Metz's legacy will live on as he continues to have an impact on the student-athletes for the Burgundy and Blue. The Robert Metz Award is given annually to the male student-athlete with the highest GPA. Additionally, there are two scholarships given in his honor; the Metz-Pliskin Scholarship as well as the Gloria and Robert Metz Endowed Golf Scholarship. 

In 2011, Metz was inducted into the FDU Knights Hall of Fame as part of the 1966 golf team. It was the best golf team Metz coached during his tenure at FDU as they went on to win their first Metropolitan Golf Association's Intercollegiate Championship.

A letter from head golf coach, Rob Warren:

It was with great sadness that I, and the members of the FDU Golf Community, learned of the passing of Mr. Robert Metz. Often referred to as a pioneer for FDU athletics, Coach Metz served as both coach for the wrestling team & golf team. He led the 1966 Hall of Fame Golf Team to the Metropolitan Golf Associations Intercollegiate Championship. Bob would later take on the leading role as Knights Athletic Director. Bob had the unique way of making everyone he came in contact with feel special and engaged in FDU. More than anything Bob has been the foundation upon which we have built the FDU Golf program. He was an ardent supporter of the program but more than anything he was a friend and mentor to so many members of our alumni. His legacy will forever be remembered through the Robert and Gloria Metz scholarship and the Robert Metz Award and I wish him nothing but peace and eternal happiness with his beloved wife Gloria.
