Men's Soccer Earns Regional Ranking and Vote in National Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The United Soccer Coaches released its updated regional and national rankings Tuesday morning, and the Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team moved up to second in the Northeast Region while also receiving a vote in the national Top 25 poll.

The Knights (3-1) trail only New Hampshire (2-0-1) in the Northeast region rankings, ahead of three other Northeast Conference rivals as well as their next opponent, Cornell (no. 3), whom the Knights face Saturday, September 14, at 5 p.m., in Ithaca, N.Y.

The Burgundy and Blue also received a vote in the Division I Top 25 Coaches' Poll. The appearance for the Knights in the national poll is their first since the 2017 season, when the Burgundy and Blue were ranked 21st in the fourth week of the season after starting 5-0-1. The Knights went on to finish 10-5-3 that season, their best record since making their run to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament back in 2012.

FDU has started the 2019 season winning three of its first four matches, including wins this past week over 23rd-ranked UConn, 2-1, on the road Friday and Gonzaga, 3-1, at home on Sunday.

The Knights came from behind to win both games, scoring back-to-back goals in a three-minute span to move ahead of UConn and then netting three unanswered goals to defeat Gonzaga. The Knights also downed Bucknell in a 2-1 match in their season opener. Junior Diego Arribas, who was named NEC Player of the Week on Tuesday, tallied goals in all three of FDU's victories.

FDU next plays at home against another team in the regional rankings, taking on NJIT (2-0-1, second in the Atlantic region) on Tuesday, September 17, at 7 p.m.
