ELKTON, Md. – The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team fell to tough Delaware squad by a 7-0 margin Sunday afternoon.
 
The Knights (1-3) earned a win at the third doubles position, but they dropped the other two doubles spots to lose the opening point and then also fell in each of the six singles bouts as well.
 
Junior Ivan Solans Diaz and sophomore Eduardo Cabral teamed up at the third doubles spot to earn a 6-4 win, evening the doubles point at 1-1 after freshman Mehdi Dhouib and sophomore Andris Gudins fell 5-7 at the no. 1 spot. Sophomores Moric Budinszky and Maciej Autuch put forth a valiant effort at the no. 2 position, forcing a tiebreaker that they ultimately lost to fall 6-7 (2).
 
Four of the six singles matches went to three sets. Dhouib played a close match at the no. 1 singles position, winning the first set 7-5 before dropping the second set in a tiebreaker, 6-7 (4). His opponent then finished strong in taking the third set by a 7-5 margin to win the match.
 
Gudins and Budinszky each dropped the first set in their matches but battled back to win their second sets and force a decisive third stanza. Both, however, fell in the third set by 2-6 scores. Gudin's match ended in a 1-6, 7-6 (3), 2-6 loss, and Budinszky dropped his by a score of 6-7 (6), 6-3, 2-6.
 
Autuch won the first set of his no. 4 singles match, 6-1, but then lost a close second set in a tiebreaker, 6-7 (2) before ultimately dropping the third set 5-7 to lose the match.
 
Solans Diaz and Cabral rounded out the singles lineup for the Knights at the no. 5 and no. 6 positions, respectively. Solans Diaz dropped two close sets to his opponent by identical 4-6 games.
 
The Knights have a quick turnaround before their next match, going to face Concordia (N.Y.) Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m.
