HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball team took care of business in its final regular season tune-up by defeating Georgian Court 88-69 in an exhibition at the Rothman Center on Thursday night.
Preseason All-NEC honoree
Jahlil Jenkins paced the Burgundy and Blue with a game-high 22 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. In total, four Knights scored in double figures with
Kaleb Bishop and
Devon Dunn tallying 14 points apiece and
Elyjah Williams chipping in 12 points.
Dunn connected on four 3-pointers in the win as the defending NEC Champions shot 11-of-30 (36.7 percent) from downtown, while limiting the Lions to 5-of-19 (26.3 percent). Bishop corralled six rebounds and Williams nabbed five as the Knights won the battle on the glass 50-41.
As a team, the Knights shot 44.8 percent and came up with eight blocked shots and seven steals. Graduate transfer
Collin McManus led the defensive effort with three blocked shots, while freshman
Daniel Rodriguez swatted a pair.
"Give credit to Georgian Court," remarked
Greg Herenda following his team's win. "They came in here and played really hard tonight but our depth and our youth were very instrumental in our victory."
Throughout the night, the Knights took advantage of miscues, converting 15 Lion turnovers into 25 points.
Playing their third exhibition of the season, the Lions jumped out to a 13-8 lead through the first six minutes of action but the Knights hit their stride and took command. The home team responded with a 31-8 run and remained in control for the duration of the contest.
The Knights' cushion would grow to as many as 21 points before the final horn sounded.
The 2019-20 season opener is next for the Burgundy and Blue as they welcome FDU-Florham to the Rothman Center next Tuesday, November 5. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. and the first 500 fans in attendance will receive a replica 2019 FDU NEC Championship banner.
