PHILADELPHIA – The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team wrapped up play at the ITA Northeast Regionals Friday with defeats in both singles and doubles.
The FDU doubles duo of redshirt sophomore
Niclas Pietsch and senior
Ivan Solans Diaz played a competitive match against a Cornell pairing of Evan Bynoe and Joseph McAllister but could not pull out the win in a 5-8 setback.
In singles, freshman
Teodors Pukse represented the Knights against St. John's Charlie James, falling in his match 1-6, 4-6.
The Knights have now concluded the fall portion of the 2019-20 season.
DAY ONE RECAP
The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team opened up the first day of the ITA Northeast Regionals hosted at Penn by earning one singles victory in three matches on Thursday.
Sophomore
Mehdi Dhouib scored the victory for the Knights in the first day of action, winning his first qualifying singles match. Dhouib advanced past Alex Makatsaria in a 7-6 (3), 6-3 first match, but the sophomore could not maintain momentum in his next bout facing Lehigh's Zack Elliott, falling 3-6, 1-6.
Redshirt sophomore
Niclas Pietsch also dropped his lone singles match of the day to Temple's Louis Gorreguis, 4-6, 1-6.
Pietsch will now shift his focus to doubles play with teammate
Ivan Solans Diaz starting Friday. Freshman
Teodors Pukse will also compete in his first singles match in the 128-player main draw that starts Friday.
