WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- After sealing the doubles point early, the No. 4 seeded Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team never looked back, taking three singles matches to claim the victory 4-2, over the No. 5 seeded Mount St. Mary's in the NEC quarterfinals.
Out of the gate, The Burgundy and Blue were sparked by two FDU pairs. The first pair of Niclas Pietsch and Andris Gudins delivered an exciting finish, notching the win over the Mountaineers duo of Wortkotter and Wood 7-6 (8-6).
In No. 3 doubles, William Bourne and Maciej Autuch sealed the doubles point by defeating Hine and Sharma 6-4.
With the early lead 1-0, the Knights delivered the knockout punch with Moric Budinszky, Autuch, and Bourne, each picking up wins in singles.
At the No. 3 spot, Autuch won in straight sets over Parth Sharma 6-3, 6-4 (7-4).
In No. 5 singles, Budinszky was matched with Gabriel Santos, while both men counted each other's moves, the match ended with Budinszky closing it out 1-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2.
Then in No. 6 singles, Bourne registered the win in a three-setter. Despite dropping the first set 6-3, Bourne rebounded and took the final two sets convincingly 6-0, 6-2.
Up next, the Knights square off with top-seeded Bryant, tomorrow in the semifinals of the NEC Championships. The match is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m.
