NEWARK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team was in action again on Sunday, a day after falling to Brown on Friday. The Knights were topped by the Highlanders of NJIT 6-1.
In No. 2 singles, Moric Budinszky delivered the lone singles win the for Knights, defeating NJIT's Aleska Petrovic in straight sets 6-4, 7-5.
In doubles, FDU's team of Niclas Pietsch and Budinsky delivered a 6-4 win over Tomi Antoljak and Petrovic.
Youssef Sader dropped a tough three-setter to Lukas Zvikas. Sader took the first set 6-3, but Zvikas rallied to take the final two sets for the win 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. In No. 6 singles, Miki Nobuzawa as well took the first set 7-6, but could not convert for the win as NJIT's Richard Rangga rallied for the next two sets to get the victory 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 10-0.
In No. 4 singles, Maciej Autuch delivered a competitive match against Abdullah Osman. Osman took the first set, while Autuch took the second, Osman came through in the final set to take th three-setter 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
"As a coaching staff, we feel that today was a stepping stone in the right direction for our young team," assistant coach Jacob Mishkin said. "Concordia on Wednesday will be a tough test and another match where we can expect to be pushed."
The Knights return to the courts on Wednesday afternoon as they travel to take on Concordia at 3:30 p.m.
