SOMERSET, N.J. -- Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer forward
Diego Arribas was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Arribas is the fourth different Knight to earn the honor this season, joining
Jahmali Waite,
Ahu Obhakhan, and
Jacob Labovitz as previous awardees.
The sophomore put on the best statistical performance of his Knights career Sunday evening against Sacred Heart, finishing with three assists as well as a goal in the team's 5-0 defeat of the Pioneers on senior day. Arribas' five points are the most by a Knight in a game this season.
Arribas assisted on FDU's first three markers of the game, including a beautiful give-and-go sequence with Obhakhan through the Pioneers back line that led to freshman
Ideal Shefqeti's second goal of the season.
The Madrid native punctuated his performance with a remarkable goal in the 65', a booming strike from 35-yards out which sailed over the Sacred Heart keeper before deflecting off of the crossbar and across the goal line. It was the first three-assist performance by a Knight since Arribas accomplished the feat last season against Bucknell.
The Knights (6-6-4, 3-2-2 NEC) currently sit tied with Bryant for third place in the NEC standings with one game to play. The two teams occupy the final two postseason spots and hold a two-point edge over St. Francis Brooklyn and Robert Morris. A crucial regular-season finale awaits the Knights this weekend, as they travel to Brooklyn to face LIU on Saturday, November 3, at 1:00 p.m.
