Men's Tennis Finishes Pride Invitational

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team began their fall season on Friday. Competing at the Pride Invitational hosted by Hofstra University. 

In Flight A singles, Moric Budinszky came away with the victory to move on to the quarterfinals. Budinszky defeated Piotr Sinkowski of Saint Peter's 5-7, 7-5, 10-2. 

Also in Flight A, Andris Gudins fought hard to earn the victory over Fabian Mauritzson of Fordham. Gudins took the first set, dropped the second and then rallied to take the third set to defeat the fellow Ram 6-4, 2-6, 10-4. 

In Flight B singles, Nick Pietsch clawed his way to victory in exciting fashion as he had to rally to take down his opponent Adolfu Blanco of Saint Francis 6-7(4), 6-3, 10-6, advancing to the quarterfinals. 

In the same Flight, Maciej Autuch took a convincing victory in straight sets over Javier Navarrio of Saiint Francis 6-3, 6-4.

Then in Flight C singles, Miki Nobuzawa finished off Allan Wang of Wagner in the third set to advance. Nobuzawa dropped the first set 2-6, regrouped to take the second set 6-0, and then battled through adversity to take down Wang 14-12 in the final set. 

Also in Flight C singles, William Bourne had his match against Cole Laffittee of Oneonta suspended due to darkness with the match resuming tomorrow morning. Bourne was leading 7-6(6). 

Youssef Sader was defeated by his opponent Eric Poland of Wagner 5-7, 0-6. Adam Chan dropped his match to Anatuliy Lashkul of Wagner 2-6, 3-6. 

In doubles, the Knights couldn't have asked for a better day. The pair of Sader and Autuch received a  bye to the quarterfinals and then advanced to the semifinals by defeating the pair from Oneonta in Distler and Laffitte 6-2. 

Another FDU pair consisting of Chan and Pietsch also received a bye to the quarterfinals and then matched up with Lashkul and Sandy of Wagner and defeated the duo 6-2, earning their spots in the semifinals. 

The Knights pair of Bourne and Budinszky represented its school as the pair defeated Zack Lasky and Mario Ammirati of Oneonta to move on to the quarterfinals. Later in the day, the same pair beat Sowinski and Oxner of Saint Peter's 6-1 to qualify for the semifinals. 

Check back tomorrow night to see how the Knights faired on the second day. 

DAY TWO 

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The Fairleigh Dickinson men's tennis team completed the Pride Invitational on Saturday. 

In C singles, William Bourne fell to Cole Laffitte of Oneonta. Despite taking the first set, Bourne couldn't find his way past Laffitte as the match final was 6-7 (7), 6-0, 10-7. This draw was resumed Saturday morning as the they had to suspend play on Friday due to darkness. 

In A Singles, Moric Budinszky defeated Andres Jacome of Saint Peter's 8-5 to advance to the semifinals. Later on in the semifinals, Budinszky topped Anatoliy Lashkul of Wagner 9-7 to advance to the finals. In the championship match, Budinszky couldn't overcome Jan Leithner of Hofstra as Leithner pevailed victorious to win 9-7 over Budinszky. 

In B singles, Maciej Autuch beat John Oxner of Saint Peter's 8-4 to advance to the semifinals. Autuch then matched up against Coco Haener of Hofstra, though Haener defeated Autuch 8-3

In the quarterfinals, Andris Gudins fell to Dylan Walters of Wagner in the quarterfinals 8-2. Nick Pietsch fell to Hans Ohrner of Wagner 8-6. Miki Nobuzawa was topped by Doug Nevor of Saint Peter's 9-7. 

In the singles consolation bracket, Adam Chan defeated Guillermo Artiz of Saint Francis 8-2 but then fell to Dale Sandy of Wagner in the semifinals 8-2. Youssef Sader topped Alejandro Ridruejo of Saint Francis 8-3 but then lost to Marcus Smith of Hofstra 8-5 in the semifinals. FDU's Bourne lost to was defeated by Ivan Knezevic 8-5 in the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket. 

In A doubles, the pair of Chan and Pietsch faced off against the Rams team of Mauritzson and De Macar in the semifinals. Chan and Pietsch topped the Fordham pair 6-2 to advance to the championship match. But lost in a terrific match to Haener and Vulinovich of Hofstra 7-6 (8).

Also in A doubles, Bourne and Budinszky met the Pride pair of Haener and Vulinovich in the semifinals. The FDU pair put on a show but fell late in in the match 7-6 (6) in heartbreaking fashion.

In B doubles, the FDU pair of Sader and Autuch bested by the Pride pair of Schrott and Silvestri 6-2 in the semifinals. Also the Knights pair of Gudins and Nobuzawa lost in the quarterfinals to Gmijovic and Blasco of Saint Francis 7-6 (3)
