The starters for both teams –
Baylee Ports of Fairleigh Dickinson and Kiandra Mitchum for Elon – only allowed three hits over the first two complete innings.
Elon then struck in the bottom of the fourth after an error, sacrifice bunt and two walks loaded the bases. Carey Million cleared the bases with a double to center field. Million then scored when Kristin Hoover, the next hitter, doubled down the left-field line to make it 4-0.
Emerson got one of her two hits in the top of the fourth but was stranded at first. Elon then tacked on two more runs in the bottom half of the inning. Kara Shutt singled up the middle on the first pitch she saw that allowed Hannah Olsen to score. A single from Million brought in the sixth run and her fourth RBI of the afternoon.
Two more runs in the sixth for Elon gave them the run-rule win after two hits, a walk and an error.
Mitchum picked up her eighth win of the year for Elon after pitching a complete game while striking out 11 and allowing just the four hits. Ports (0-2) allowed five earned runs – six overall – over four innings for the Knights.
