Men's Soccer Defeats Howard 2-1

WASHINGTON, D.C. -  The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's soccer team defeated the Howard Bison by a final score of 2-1 Tuesday evening at Greene Stadium. The win moves FDU to 9-4-2 (2-2-1 NEC) on the season.  The Knights return to action on Sunday, October 28th when they host LIU Brooklyn at University Stadium for Senior Day.

Goalkeeper Tiago Capela faced 19 shots to backstop the Knights to his third win of the season.  Freshman Rocky Garretson scored his first career goal in a Knights uniform, and Jacob Labovitz added his fifth tally of the 2017 campaign to lead FDU to the victory.

"It was a good win tonight and especially nice because a number of guys  got their first start of the season and some others got their first start of their collegiate career. They did a great job." head coach Seth Roland said.

Four Knights made their first start ever for Fairleigh Dickinson Tuesday evening, as Rocky Garretson, Nark Miranda, Jose Huerta, and Josh Schupak were all in the opening lineup, as was freshman Christian Fryc making his third start of the year. Quentie Kyeremateng and Stjepan Kilic each made their first start of the 2017 season against the Bison as well.

Garretson didn't wait long into his first start of the year to make an impact for the Knights, collecting a pass from Schupak and rifiling home a shot past the Howard goalkeeper and into the net just four minutes into the match to give Fairleigh Dickinson the early edge.

The Knights continued to get scoring chances, however Howard was quick on the counter-attack as well, forcing Capela to make a number of saves throughout the evening.

The Knights had several more quality looks on goal as the game wore on into the second half, misfiring on a few before Labovitz finally found the back of the net to give FDU a 2-0 cushion.

Howard's Joel Cunningham cut the deficit back down to one in the 74', however the young Knights squad found a way to hold on and secure the win, 2-1.
